It took Walt Disney more than 20 years to convince author, P.L. Travers, to sell the movie rights of her Mary Poppins books, and a further 40 years for it to play on the stage.

Sculpted by Samantha Wild, Mary Poppins was created with the blessing of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh in partnership with the stage show which played at the Prince Edward Theatre.

The statue is based on Zizi Strallen’s portrayal of the eponymous nanny in the West End theatre production and is depicted gracefully landing in Leicester Square gardens.
