Leicester Square Rolls Out the Green Carpet for Paddington in Peru
Leicester Square, London's iconic home of film and entertainment, recently welcomed the cast behind the film starring Britain's most beloved bear, Paddington, for the Leicester Square premiere of Paddington in Peru.
Stars gathered to celebrate the marmalade-loving bear's latest adventure, with an impressive lineup gracing the green carpet, including Hugh Bonneville, Olivia Colman, Emily Mortimer, Ben Whishaw, Antonio Banderas, Jim Broadbent, and many others.
Karen Jankel, daughter of Paddington’s creator Michael Bond, was also in attendance, honoring her father's creation that continues to charm audiences worldwide.
Hugh Bonneville's relationship with the lovable bear dates to a memorable moment when they shared a bench in Leicester Square, enjoying a marmalade sandwich to celebrate Paddington’s inclusion in Discover Leicester Square’s Scenes in the Square trail.
This weekend’s Premiere also brought exciting news of a royal surprise. The late Queen Elizabeth II will make an unexpected appearance in the film, reprising her memorable scene with Paddington from the 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Buckingham Palace has granted special approval for the footage, with producer Rosie Alison sharing that the royal family was “very happy for it to happen.” This cameo adds a heartfelt touch, reminding audiences of the Queen’s fondness for Paddington.
Directed by award-winning commercials director Dougal Wilson, Paddington in Peru marks the third installment of the franchise, which began in 2014. Olivia Colman, who will appear as the Reverend Mother, expressed her enthusiasm, stating she "signed without hesitation" to join Paddington’s world.
