Globally renowned photographer Rankin has embarked on an ambitious portrait project, Performance by Rankin, paying tribute to the remarkable talent and resilience of London’s theatreland as it emerges from the pandemic shutdown.

Alongside a landmark free exhibition at the FUJIFILM House of Photography in Covent Garden, a book of the portraits is also available to buy at the House of Photography.

Across nearly 150 stunning portraits, Rankin invites you behind the curtain to meet the countless highly skilled people who make up the theatre industry – from star performers, writers, directors and producers to stage managers, dressers, pit musicians, designers, puppeteers, technicians, stage door keepers, voice coaches and many more – interspersed with inspiring quotes about their experiences of the pandemic and the feeling of being back onstage. While exploring the exhibition, you can follow the Official London Theatre exhibition guide and read interviews with the portrait subjects too.

Proceeds from the exhibition will support the Theatre Artists Fund offering emergency grants to theatre workers and the Mayor’s youth homelessness charities.

Photographed as part of Performance by Rankin, for a free exhibition running until 12 March at the FUJIFILM House of Photography.
