Gaze up to spot Batman, perched an incredible 25 metres above the ground on the rooftop of the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square.
As the highest statue on the Scenes in the Square trail, the bronze Dark Knight keeps a watchful eye over the city below. First appearing in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman has been fighting for justice ever since.
Then, look across the square to see Wonder Woman in full heroic action, bursting through the wall of the Vue West End Cinema. Inspired by a battle scene from the 2017 film Wonder Woman, this dynamic statue shows her brandishing the Lasso of Truth, capturing her strength, speed and unwavering spirit. First appearing in All Star Comics #8 in 1941, Wonder Woman (a.k.a. Diana Prince) remains a timeless symbol of peace, justice and equality. For visitors arriving from Leicester Square Tube Station, she’s the first statue you’ll see on the trail, a spectacular welcome to the square.
After meeting two of DC’s greatest heroes, continue your adventure with a visit to the LEGO Store, where kids can build their very own Batman minifigure to take home. Then, stroll down Piccadilly to Waterstones, where superhero books and comics await to spark their imagination.
Finish your day with a family meal at PizzaExpress or Steak & Company, both just moments away and enjoy the lively West End atmosphere.
Duel Purpose
The tube journey on the Piccadilly line between Leicester Square and Covent Garden is London’s shortest, travelling only 260 metres. It lasts only 45 seconds and at £29.81 per mile, is one of the worlds’ most expensive rail journeys – enough of an incentive to take the scenic route and walk.
